About Trip:
Central Zoo (6-hectare; 15-acre) in Kathmandu is home to various mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and fish. The central zoo is under the umbrella of the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC). The Central Zoo, also known as Chidiya Khana in Nepali, has around 870 species of animals out of 109 species.
The Central zoo is an old zoo created by the Rana rulers in 1932 as a private zoo, but later on, in 1950, it came under a government umbrella. Central Zoo, is full of greeneries, and animal diversity under an area of 6 hectares, which gives visitors great refreshments from the hustle and bustle of city areas. The Conservative Endangered Species, i.e., Royal Bengal Tiger and One-Horned Rhino live in a central zoo. Similarly, there are few hippos, ostrich, and siamang, which are also rare to be found.
Thus, there are various birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and rare species preserved in this zoo. The central zoo is home to mammals like the Asian elephant, Assam macaque, rhesus macaque, spotted deer, four-horned antelope, red panda, wild and boar. Also, Common Leopard, Masked palm, barking deer, Hippo, Indian Rhinoceros, etc. are available in the central zoo. Big reptiles in the central terrarium include the Aldabra tortoise, rock python, Chinese alligator, cobra, monitor, lizard, gharial, and turtle.
